Dr. Evan Dowdy
Growing up on his grandfather's cattle ranch in Wyoming,
Evan Dowdy learned common sense and the basics of animal medicine.
After earning his D.V.M. from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine,
he returned to work on the ranch, where he was the only veterinarian within 40 miles.
Devoting his career as a full-time veterinarian, he gathered even more experience as a
full-time generalist and part-time emergency vet for three years in Pennsylvania.
In 1991, Dr. Dowdy joined Dr. Kiefer at Kiefer Veterinary Clinic, now Horizon Veterinary
Clinic, a respected animal hospital established in 1946, where he continues a tradition
of superior care for pets. Dr. Dowdy is currently the owner of Horizon Veterinary Clinic
and Dr. Kiefer has retired. Small animal surgery, internal medicine, acupuncture, and
treatment of chronic ear problems are a few of his areas of interest. He is a member of
American Veterinary Medical Association, American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA),
Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society, Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, and
Who's Who in Veterinary Medicine (1991-1992).
"As long as I can remember, I wanted to work with animals. Treating animals is a
great privilege and a responsibility I take very seriously. That's why I make
sure all my four-legged patients enjoy gentle care and advanced treatments."
Education:
D.V.M, Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine
B.S. in Zoology, University of Wyoming (with honors)

Dr. Kristen Mitchell
Dr. Kristen Mitchell was born and raised in Michigan, and her relationship with
animals began with many fond memories on her grandparents' dairy farm. Eventually,
she and her parents moved out to the country, where she was able to fulfill her dream
of having horses. As a teenager, she spent countless hours training and showing her
family's Morgan horses. However, it wasn't until she moved away to college that she
realized what a profound effect animals had had on her life, and it was then that she
decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
After earning her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Michigan State University,
she joined a mixed animal practice in Howell, Michigan, where she began her career
as a small animal veterinarian. She stayed with this practice until her husband's
career gave them the opportunity to move to beautiful Colorado, where she joined
Drs. Dowdy and Berg at Horizon Veterinary Clinic.
Her interests include small animal surgery, internal medicine,
and preventative care. She especially enjoys educating pet owners about their pet's
health care and how to ensure that their pets live long, healthy, and happy lives.
She is a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society, the American Veterinary
Medical Association, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, and the Denver
Area Veterinary Medical Association. In 2005, she was nominated for "Who's Who in
Veterinary Medicine."
About working at Horizon Veterinary Clinic, she says, "I feel
fortunate to work at an animal hospital where everyone takes pride in delivering the
highest level of care possible to your four-legged family members."

Dancer
Dancer came to Horizon Veterinary Clinic in 1994 as a stray when she was just 12 weeks old.
She got her name from her playful habit of 'dancing' in her cage to get attention from the
staff. Although she has donated blood in the past (and saved several sick feline patients),
her current job duties mainly involve supervising the receptionist. You may find her hard
at work in the front office when you come in for an appointment. Her hobbies include sleeping
on Dr. Dowdy's keyboard (thus being responsible for some 'creative' changes to the computer
system) and pretending she doesn’t like David, one of our other clinic cats.

David
David came to Horizon Veterinary Clinic as an eight week old kitten in 2002.
He had an injured tail that failed to heal and ultimately had to be partially amputated.
However, he hasn’t let his 'disability' slow him down! He enjoys greeting clients,
teasing Dancer, and getting into mischief around the clinic.
